Jaeger-LeCoultre

Mountain out of mole hill

Why make such a big deal out of this?  I for one really like my Tribute DSA and in fact prefer it to the vintage because 1. it is easier to find one in good condition and(or was-in the event that the LE has sold out) 2. it benefits from the advances in movement building technologies that no doubt is an improvement.  In thirty or forty years the Tribute will likely be a vintage watch in demand, though I may not live long enough to see that.

As for the new chrono, well IMO that's one of the nicest "sport" chronos that I have seen in new production, at least as far as I can tell from the images.  I especially like that it doesn't have a date function, and that it's not as large as so many of the new production watches, especially the chrono models.  In fact  I really like the way the Tribute DSA wears on my wrist and therefore I suspect that I will similarly like the new chrono.  Having expressed that, I confess that I would almost certainly prefer the slightly smaller size of the vintage DSA model.  Regardless what does it matter if the chrono didn't previously exist in an earlier form?  If I like it, I will buy it; if I don't like it I won't buy it.  Simple as that.

Since there are literally tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of watches-antique, vintage, and new or recent production-that one can buy, why make such a big deal out this particular piece?  Surely there are dozens of watches that we don't buy for various reasons: maybe we don't like a particular piece at all; or maybe we like it a little but not enough to buy it; or maybe we like it a lot but we like another piece even more.  I am confident that JLC didn't intend to insult you by producing a watch that doesn't meet the expectations of a collector such as yourself.

Cheers.
