Myth alarm....

Hi Jerome, all,
I must have missed those speculations about the "new"  IWC  "Jones" caliber.
I've to say that those speculations don't make much sense at all - as we all know it's not unlikely that something like this (presenting something old as new in house caliber) would happen, but in this case I don't believe there's any reason to connect the IWC caliber with the Unitas 6478/79 movement.
Yes, it's both time only with small seconds and about similar size - but that's it.
I'd say that any technical person will easily  recognize that this are two different calibers.
Almost all important pivoting points are different  (well, the center wheel is in the center on both smile )  and  something  also very revealing, the keyless works, are completely different (to be precise, out of another world) .

So, in this case, you don't even need any historical background to  clarify this "non issue".

And, btw,  even when Unitas released  this cal.  beginning of 50ties,  I believe the bbase caliber for this movement was existing long before, IIRC  it's called cal. 263 - there have been tons of 15-17''' time only calibers in those times - to draw a connection of this movement to the IWC movement only shows in what sort of poor time we live in (speaking of watchmaking smile  )  - both, technically and when it comes knowledge about those.

Best regards

Suitbert
