New movement for Extreme Lab 2
I sent my Extreme lab 2 into service at JLC. The one that I have currently is one of the ones that has the black bridges. 
I just heard back from JLC that in order to service the movement, they need to replace the full movement with the new lighter colored movement, as it has been updated. They can’t just service the existing movement.
I know most people prefer the lighter Bridges, but thoughts? I feel like there isn’t really a choice as I’m not confident anyone else can service this watch.

You don't really have the choice, obviously. As per your question, the blackened movement adds something special to this already special watch. I would have preferred to keep it.
The lighter movement is good, too, as you can better see it. But I would have preferred that JLC keeps it as it is. Best, Nicolas

I find that lame, but the silver lining may be a quick turnaround at the service center
It's weird to me they can't actually perform a 'service'.
Does anyone know why that is? Did they explain it to you, OP? I'm a bit baffled that they opt for a drop-in replacement.
They said the movement has been upgraded.
All I got back was the movement was upgraded and they can only service on the updated movement which is a different colour.
The watch hasn’t been serviced since 2011 it was running fast
I took the watch to the boutique who then sent it back to jlc in Switzerland.

How badly was it functioning? Is just asking them to return it unserviced an option?
It sounds like you don’t have a choice unless you try an independent watch repairer.
IMO, brands should be able to repair their products. But at least you have the info. I feel like some brands would just do it and tell you afterwards.
So if they didn’t have any extra movements
the watch would be unserviceable? Seems impossible. Nearly anything is serviceable, it’s just a matter of cost and effort.

I can't imagine a whole movement cost to replace 😬 vs a few thousand to service. Are they subsidizing it at service cost because it's kind of a big gaf that JLC, especially with all the price increases, can't service a watch that's 13 years old 🤷♂️ will ...
Same charge as a service. So no additional charge.
I opted to upgrade but they said they could just service and repair the old movement but no warranty.
JLC does not have time to serve or construct watches as the customer would like.
They have to create watches like a Duometre Heliotourbillon Perpetual at a price of $438,000 USD.
How much was the cost for the replacement movement?
Makes me quite nervous for the long term serviceability of the watch.
Update - They came back and said if I wanted to they can still service the old movement. They just cannot give it the 2 year warranty.
I opted to go with the upgraded movement. This was a grail watch for me and I don’t plan on selling it so if it does take a hit on the price I am okay with it. I plan to wear this watch for a very long time and would prefer a movement that I know can be s...
