... between promoting the virtue of vintage watches altruistically and the self-interested enhancement of their value. This is true for anyone with enthusiasm in vintage watches, but especially for those of us who already own the watches which they promote. Sharing one's enthusiasm and knowledge about certain models will almost inevitably transfer into interest in these models and could thereby enhance their value.
This line is especially fine and difficult to walk for you as a moderator who has built up an extensive collection and vast knowledge of vintage JLCs. Discussing auction results with reference to the reasons why watches did not perform as one personally expected could raise suspicion that this forum has been abducted from its altruistic path.
Personally I do not care at all how a watch performed in an auction as I collect and wear my watches for their intrinsic value. Watches should neither be investments nor should they become external personality traits. I believe that that is what is we all should consent to.
Have a nice Advent Sunday, Nicolas.
Yours sincerely,
Christian
