Thanks for the well wishes. I think we might just get it done quickly on Monday. Spur of the moment thing and it actually coincides with our engagement last year (hence that particular date). So I will get that watch and not hold out for a bargain elsewhere.
I was on the way there this evening at 6PM and called the store to make sure they had it all ready and all that was needed was to count the notes. I even used $100 notes just so they could count quicker as I most likely would've parked right outside the store (not sure if it was allowed) so it'd help me avoid a fine if I could have dashed in and straight out. A fine might have been even cheaper as parking lots near the store charges $69 for 1hr 59min. I know, atrocious gouging.
Anyway, so I called the store and yes they had it ready and the shorter strap replaced the original one (and yes I asked if the same width was on it and yes it was) and was ready for collection. I confirmed the payment (AUD$3,000 from retail of $3,800) and then I asked the time the store closed. It was shopping night afterall and most shops close at 9PM on those days. They said 7PM! So I had only an hour to make the 35km trip. Do-able late at night but I'm driving into peak hour traffic. After driving some more, I really had buckley's chance geting to the store as the city would be packed and the store was in the premiere shopping distict of the CBD (Castlereagh and King St).
Think New Year's Eve traffic (OK slight exaggeration, but it's the last shopping night of the End of Financial Year sale). Some places have crazy bargains. Fiance got tops for $30 (retailed $100 after discount from even a higher price). It wasn't a fake overly inflated price then heavily discount. This time of year has some true unbelievable deals. I'm sure every country has these kind of sale once or twice a year. In my books, you just can't say no to 70% off.
So here I am doing last minute research before I go to bed. Because when I wake up, it's off to town I go to collect the watch. And to think it started off from research from watches I won at auctions and still bidding for on other watches, then to WUS, then learning more on automatics. There was one great thread on another forum (am I allowed to say WUS here? Sorry if I am not) on Tissot's Visodate Heritage, then it went to Le Locle because of the guiloche dial, then almost accepting my counteroffer for an Orient auto for US$75, then trialling Visodate and the Le Locle and then shown another Tissot, a Ballade III auto and quartz to confuse me further as it was all great watches. Back reseaching more I went to look for more info on Mont Blanc because that's where my heart was long before I knew the difference beween quartz and mechanical. It was there on that forum that a few member stuck up for Mont Blanc and I remember how one member said, "if Mont Blanc had it's own dedicated forum on Purist Pro and TimeZone, then it's good enough for me" or something along those lines. That's how I came to ths site. So when you think about it, I was initially going to spend $700-$800 on my first mechanical and even contemplated trialing a $75 Orient (to see how I faired with an auto), a $3,800 watch is a fair leap, to say the least. Glad I'm getting the 08452 for an even three grand.
I guess being the wedding watch, I want my pending nuptials to be as perfect as this pending watch. A good buzz of nervousness
I am also happy to stick with my guns with the Mont Blanc, even though my fiance said she would contribute $5,000 to a Rolex I tried on and she was smitten by.
Mont Blanc may not have the same wide acknowledgment of the Rolex.
- To all the people who says Mont Blanc makes pens. So what! They make damn good watches too and I am grateful in the direction where they want to take with their watches. Could have easily outsourced and slapped on their brand on ALL their watches. But they're not and their investment in their facility and college point to the right direction.
Or even the persumed prestige and luxury.
- To me, Mont Blanc is a luxury brand I can identify with. Long before I owned anything from them. Not even a pen (to this day) I have only a wallet. And this was all from an innocent question when my then girlfirend asked me what my favourite brand was and I told her it was Mont Blanc. So the watch will be my second MB item and a close second favourite item, the first being my car (but of course).
Or the diamond hour markers.
- Nothing screams luxury as diamonds. Yes they are pretty, but it just takes alway the elegance if it was on Mont Blanc watch. That's just how I feel and I'm glad my watch doesn't have any (my wallet would be doubly glad too if it could talk). I have three-rowed of invisibly set diamonds on my wedding ring and and just shy of over a one carat diamond surrounded by smaller ones on a ring worn next to my wedding band. That is plenty of bling for me and all I need.
Or the resale value.
- This is my wedding watch. It will be the most important event in my life (until we have children and they have their own children). You canot trade on that, much less the same as how you wouldn't sell or trade up your wedding ring. I am one who buys watches to wear. Watches to keep. That's why I still have my TAG Kirium and why I still wear it daily. Resale is a moot point as I am not a professional collector or proclaim or plan to be. The value of a used watch is what I place on it. And my wedding watch to me is priceless.
So none of that matters to me. Mont Blanc is MY grail brand. Mont Blanc makes me feel so good that Rolex can't do. There a dozens of watches out there that can be better than this Mont Blanc in any way or every way. but those watches are just not realistic as I would never spend that much money on a watch. I will put my family first and cannot picture spending 20k, 30k even 50k on myself. That means it's just less money that could have gone into our children's tuition, a deposit for a house, a nicer car, renovated house or into a small business.
I am sooo close to getting my grail brand. It is reasonably priced and I am just soooo excited as it is really happening. If you're like me and you've stumbled onto this forum looking for guidance, please, by all means, ask any one of the members here (Mike being quick to help me and very informative- cheers Mike), they will more than happy help you out. If you are looking at the same watch as me, PLEASE by all means, ask me ANYTHING. I will only br too happy to return the favour and help any member here. My knowledge is limited but I will do what I can. Even take specific photos or point you to which salesperson to deal with in any of the two Mont Blanc boutique.
Now to finish up here and get some rest. Will keep you p to date. If you have any questions for me, please fire away. I'll promise to get back to you as soon as I can viathis thread or PM's.
Cheerio and thank you Mont Blanc for completing my wedding attire. You'll make me look a million bucks~
