Visiting Le Locle: Part 3

We all know that Montblanc has many other model lines.  Besides the Rieussec chronographs, the Timewalker series, the Sports series, and the Montblanc Star series are also assembled at the Le Locle facility.

Here Don shows us that the same attention to details are applied by Montblanc on their "entry" level timepieces.

I'll be taking a closer look at the Timewalker series soon and sharing my thoughts with the community.  I am not immune to preconceived notions and I am hoping that a close inspection period will clarify any issues that I may personally have with this model line.

As always please enjoy and leave a word of thanks for Don and MB.

Cheers, Mike

A visit to Montblanc Montre in Le Locle - part 3

After passing through the workshop for the Montblanc Nicolas Rieussec timepieces we arrive in the assembly shop for the other Montblanc watches.  Here the watchmakers work in “islands” where 4 watchmakers assure all the operations to complete a watch head.

This starts out by mounting the hands on the previously tested movements using either linear, as in this picture, or rotative, as in further pictures, semi-automatic hand mounting equipment.

The hands are all placed on their proper place on the jig, watch is set to midnight and then one at a time the hands are picked up by the proper press and then placed on the watch.

After all the hands have been placed they are inspected to be sure that they are level and not touching either the dial or each other.

The casing screws are picked up using a suction tool and placed in their proper place.

Then they are tightened up by hand.

After casing the watch heads are tested for water tightness and timing in 5 positions on the machines below.

A last working check before the final checks of the esthetics.

Now some of the watch heads I saw here in production.
The Montblanc TimeWalker Chronograph Automatic in red gold with a diamond bezel, automatic.

The Montblanc Star 4810, automatic

The Montblanc Star Chronograph GMT, automatic

The Montblanc Nicolas Rieussec, monopusher chronograph, with the Montblanc manufacture automatic movement MB R200.

In the final installment I will show a cross section of the Montblanc collection.
