Officine Panerai

One last Venus 179 thread for today. The Panerai Radiomir ref. PAM00047 is a 40 mm steel limited edition (the catalog says 20 pieces, but the case back bears 10...) powered by the Venus 179 calibre . The ref. PAM00147 is a 42 mm pink gold 35 pieces limite...

But for me the Pam 00047 with the bicompax layout is the better of the two as the dial is just so clean looking and the movement also looks just so good. I don't know why but all these chronographs with a pusher in the crown are driving me insane, but in ... 

gives the watch a unique look, both vintage and dynamic, retro and modern. Like you, I prefer the cleaner "bicompax" layout: sadly this watch is so rare that I haven't been able to find live photos. Best, Emmanuel

With only 10 (20 ?) made, I imagine seeing one isn't easy.

The movement is absolutely gorgeous But to me a panerai is not ultra high end I would prefer this movement in another case / brand and for panerai an el primero is more than good enough

and models that have used calibre Venus 179! And I personally quite like these two Radiomir. Best, Emmanuel

He stuffed every loose movement he could scrounge up and wedged into a “Limited” Luminor or Radiomir case! Honestly, there were some delicious offerings back then! Had Panerai not stuffed* a 6497 into a Luminor or Radiomir case, I would not be an owner. F...

Thanks Emmanuel for another great post with insightful details! Almost like another "coincidence" between Panerai and GP - we have seen Ferrari chronographs from both brands, including the special foudroyante split seconds (e.g. PAM246, PAM343 vs. GP 9020... 

but I'm not at all into cars, so I didn't pay as much attention as I should have. And I know about the Foudroyante, but it's a complication that drives me crazy: I couldn't say exactly why, but I dislike the "furious fast" hand...
