3% is apparently the percentage of people buying 'luxurious' wristwatches which would understand, appreciate and look into all the details of a wristwatch.
Panerai aims to cater for their entire wide market.
Of course we all, want it all. So long Panerai continues to display their known and established values (legible, robust, functional and reliable), I believe that 'in-house' movements is an added bonus which will be beneficial for their independency.
Rather than over-working the finishing which is made better by others with centuries of experiences, I personally would prefer to see Panerai making their after sales services as unique as their watches.
As for their pricings, I believe they have well identified their markets and are positioned on close to every segments offering base to tourbillon pieces often at a much lesser price than their direct competitors... will we pay more... much more for the finishing? Or, will we continue to choose a piece from those makers that were born for it?
Do we expect our Rolex to be finished as a Lange und Sohne wristwatch?
My personal choice is to get from Panerai what they have to offer on the basis of their established values, and all the bonuses they can add to it. And do not forget Panerai has only some 12 years of serious watch history... OUCH what I am saying here.... ;-)
