Hairline scratches do not show easily in the new PVD and DLC models
I don't know about the old PVD models since I never had one. But my PAM195 uses the newer PVD coating and I wear it all the time as one of my beaters. Not a scratch except when I rubbed it against a metal pipe once. But for regular wear and tear, the PVD coating shows no marks at all.
For the new DLC, it's supposed to be even stronger than PVD. DLC is a specific PVD process so technically DLC is PVD. Panerai's DLC and PVD come out slightly different in color too.

i have not tried to test the DLC coating on my PAMs either but I had a Sinn once and I did try to test its coating durability by using a screwdriver to scratch against the back of a bracelet link, and guess what, there was no mark left on the coating. so ...
