When does an..intrinsical or necessary..design choice....
at one point in the production, become an..iconic trait..of the manufacturer? Answer to that, might help the understanding of certain "design" decisions made by the manufacturers. That being said, I can live with either conclusion and certainly with or without REG - T.M. on a Panerai 
Panerai Luminor crown guard "REG. T.M." stamp - YEA or NAY?
Ever since the first Richemont-era 47mm Panerai Luminor 1950 came out, which was the PAM127, Panerai began using the registered trademark stamp "REG. T.M." on its iconic crown guard. See below picture of my PAM203. Do you guys actually like this REG. T.M....
If it was a patent issue, then they could engrave it elsewhere.
I agree with you. On the vintage, you don't see that mention on the crownguard. It would be much better without, like on the 44 mms. Best, Nicolas

I hate those, you spend day and nights, shaping, balancing proportions, fine tuning highlights and then you destroy them with letters, so i agree they do not contribute positively to the styling in my opinion Cheers Luc

yea
i like it. the T.M. is done in good taste. It adds a little more character to panerai's minimalistic design, plus their is not much engravings on watches out there. which makes it more unique to me.

if the engraving is present or not, related to the patent itself. They can engrave it everywhere they want. I don't like it and would rather prefer it neither existed, but is a minor issue. On the other hand these watches are always more fulfilled by writ...
I'm okay with it.
In fact, I'm so used to seeing it now, that I actually like it now. On the 47MM Luminor cases where the crown guards are larger than the smaller sizes, it actually looks a bit bare without it (in my eyes). So I'm ever so slightly pro REG. T.M. stamp.
