Parmigiani

Caliber PF110 with a Jump Hour Complication

The "hebdomadaire" 8-day manual winding movement, caliber PF110, is well known to Parmigiani enthusiasts. It was the brand's first in-house movement and found its way first into the Ionica watch followed by the Kalpa XL watch.

Here we have the Ionica with its trademark double-stepped and knurled bezel and classic tonneau shape, with the manual winding hebdomadaire movement. The Ionica dates from 1999.

And here we have the polished case Kalpa XL with the 8-day movement.

It is not as well known that in its early years Parmigiani sold a small number of PF110 movements to Piaget which added its own jumping hour complication. The result was the Piaget Emperador Jumping Hour.

When I look at these watches I find myself hoping, with no real expectation of it coming to fruition, that Parmigiani brings back the Ionica with a jump hour complication. It would be uber cool to do a 30 year anniversary piece that pays tribute to the brand's first watch, the Ionica, with the novelty of a jumping hour complication. It's a dream but why not?

Thanks for looking my friends and enjoy your Sunday!
