Patek Philippe

As I am new to horology and am considering the purchase of a nice quality watch, I was wondering if someone could explain to me why a Patek Philippe might be a choice to consider. Thank you.

Patek is a well established brand and not usually the first choice for someone "new to horology". What sort of watches have you been considering?

models of most brands do not interest me. They are rather loud and obnoxious. As I stated in my previous post, I am looking for a timepiece which will tell me the time and not one with multiple "complications". This message has been edited by Europalaan o... 

I think something like a Patek 2526 or a Calatrava if you want something newer. Other vintage watches can be nice as well. I personally prefer a very plain gold watch. Even a date is a bit too complicated for me.
