Just one of the many things I worry about.
3 Daughters. 15, 13, 8. 6 Pateks and too many Rolex watches. And I want to buy each daughter a Rolex at 18. I have told my wife that if I get hit by a bus I have a friend ready to step in and acquire the entire collection at an honest price. So she doesn't have to hand them over to Christie's. She can pick any watches she wants to keep before selling. My wife has no interest in watches. She knows they are "expensive" but has no idea what they are worth. If she did, I might become the ex-husband. Anyway, I have 3 adult nephews who are all into watches and could probably steer her from getting 20 cents on the dollar for them.
I think it's time to update my will to leave specific watches to each daughter. I hope in the next few years they really learn to be financially responsible. And over the next few years I plan to educate them a little about horology so that they will appreciate these nice pieces of metal. If not, they are an asset that have appreciated over time. Not the reason I bought them or own them, but one of the benefits of this hobby. So I hope they hold on to them and pass them down to their kids. Besides my name in gold paint at various institutions around the world, there won't be anything to remember I once existed. So my children and my watches will be the only evidence of me.
