the only reason...
... after two years that the CO is important, is to know that you are getting a piece from the actual owner who's name is on the CO he is giving you. Otherwise papers or not you don't know if somone lost this piece, had it stolen etc etc. Safest bet is to acquire the movement & serial/case #s from the seller and confirm with Patek that the piece hasnt been reported stolen or lost.
