Patek Philippe

5015 or 5054?

The two pieces you are considering are similar but at the same time, entirely different.  If a date is important, then the obvious choice is the 5014. If not, then the 5015 has some features which should also be considered.

The 5054 has very clean lines and was the forerunner to many pieces currently in the Patek collection, the 3712, 5712, etc.  The 5015 has two features which I feel are quite important to consider though.  Remember, prior to the 5015, the only Pateks with the moonphase display were perpetuals, the 5015 was the first non-perpetual piece introduced.  The other is the moonphase itself which can be set precisely, more so than the 5014.  These two elements, in my opinion make the 5015 an important piece in Patek's history and certainly one not to be overlooked regardless of cosmetics.

If given the choice, I would choose the 5015 due to its historical importance.

Best of luck with your decision, it's a tough one but either would be a great watch to own.
