Thank you for your feedback. Let me explain the story of this decision: after spending time in second-hand reseller in HK two weeks ago (Mongkok, TST, Central..) I found the 5015R timepiece and I immediately liked it: even if I don't like small watches I do like complications so it was a perfect compromise. Oh, and well, it's Patek Philippe 
I started to benchmark the price on internet, I negociated with vendor and at the end I arrived close to the lower bound of the price range for this model. (overall watch condition is 1-2, strap needs to be changed of course, with box and papers).

The 5055 is definitely not for me, too modern. From what I read on forums/articles, it seems the 5054/55 mechanism is an "upgraded" version of the 5015, especially for the moon phase part. I don't like the expression "upgraded" for such a high-end timepiece but you get the idea, right? I looked after it in HK and I found it few days ago (5054J). Same process, I negociated and I am also at the lower bound, only 300USD more than the 5015R.

As you said personal style is important ; I work in luxury fashion industry (famous french group..) and I am most of time in smart casual or with trendy fashion clothes at work. Never wear any suit.
This being said, my opinion is now more on the 5054. I think for a very first PP purchase it's more conventional and for the resell it might be better. Also the seller has a very good condition box and recent papers (the "extract from archives") with it. It matters, for me.
This is a bulk of what I have in mind haha.

I would not hesitate a single second: 5054
it is more classic, more Patek-like. The watch is also much easier to sell if you would like to do that one day. Good luck! Kari
Both are good watches.
Depends if you are more a casual guy. The 5015r with hobnail bezel would be more for formal wear. But both have a good movement in the 240 Cal. So chose prudently. If you can afford , get both you won't go wrong. Cheers. Geross.
5015 R is my vote
And it is purely based on the design. The 5054 has no exuberance, is not big theatre compared to the 5015. The 5054 is watch but the 5015 is something different than just a watch. I very much like the period and baroque look of it! Best Moritz

To be honest I agree with you. I like the baroque style of number font, compare to 5054 which has something like "Arial-style" numbers.. But for such a purchase I have to consider also the resell, years later, and a few people like the Clous de Paris case...

I have also bought a Patek for myself that is known to be a "acquired taste" model, a model that is not main stream . And I bought it new from an AD. To me it is still "the most beautiful Patek" and whether any other Patek is better in after market value ...

Like many members of the forum, I would also go for the 5054 due to all the reasons already mentioned but ultimately, if your heart is set of on 5015, do not buy the 5054 because you will always be thinking about the 5015. I am a bit more sentimental with...
Between thos 2, I would pick 5054.
And that is purely based on subjective looks. But why limit to those 2? There are other PPs with both power reserve and moonphase (5712, 5146 for example, and others that are not current like my 5056).
limitations
my limits are 1. the availabilities in HK second hand market (I live here as expat), 2. I really don't like Nautilus/Aquanaute models and 3. I LOVE the 5146 and 5056 but they are just twice the price of 5015/5054 !

I chose the 5054J ! Despite the small design differences, the overall condition is better and it comes with many accessories (a brand new wooden box, a long travel box, Archives paper). I will post full pictures in the next days to let you see this wonder...

5054 is cool, especially in RG/WG. The other one...I would believe that the spaces between the tiny hobnails would gather dirt quickly. I would polish it every day and curse the (&"%$"$ hobbnails soon.
