Alas, the company will carry on
We feel a great sense of loss when we leave, although it is not always mutual.
I was head of R&D at one firm, and when I left they packed my entire office into boxes and put it in storage. The "new guy" who had worked for me for several years managed to grab a few things, but everything else disappeared and no one really cared, or missed my projects. They funded his but ignored most of them too.
I really missed that job.
Likewise when I retired after 10 years at another place, the new lady came in, we shared info for a few weeks, and the owner arranged a 3-month consulting schedule just in case - we had 3 phone calls and one lunch, and that was it. I was forgotten except by HR who still needed signatures now and then. And one guy who calls me whenever his watch battery needs changing.
I don't miss that one. And I have too much to do to keep on working!
