I am due to retire in April next year but today, I tried on a watch that may make me postpone my retirement for another three months (any excuse to keep on working! ). I have always liked the cushion shaped case of the 5940G, the allure of the Arabic nume...  

I had thought it would be large but it fits perfectly. I like the legibility. It is definitely my next purchase. The only negative is the tonneau shaped case is not very popular. Round watches are the norm. Remember the 3970 in this case were terrible sel... 

...in any metal but yellow gold looks better on me. I love it because of its shape and slimness. The only thing that would make it perfect would be a shaped movement to fit the case but that will never happen...buy it!!

I think we like it for the same reasons!

The tonneau shaped case is what makes it stands above the norm.

which are also known as Arabic numerals And as I posted this in the Patek forum, I thought I would refer to the numerals as Arabic rather than Breguet

not all Arabic numerals are Brequet shaped.

Well all numerals are Arabic unless they happen to be Roman or in same cases written in a different language. It\'s based on the Arabic numeral system. Within that you would get different calligraphic fonts I would guess.

I should have stated Breguet numerals and not Arabic numerals which are more general.

watch does not have the extra solid case back or the deployant clasp typical supplied on Patek "Grand Complications". Why I really do not know.

Well done! I will be having discussions with my bosses tomorrow to know if my retirement extension is possible. The watch should come with an extra solid back but not the deployant clasp and to be honest, I prefer the pin buckle. I hope it comes with a Pa... 

Sham, In your shoes, I'd postpone retirement three months and buy the watch. A dealer offered me a great price on the yellow gold model and I passed because of the metal and an allegiance to chronographs, but I haven't been able to get this reference out ... 

It is my favourite Patek currently(bar the minute repeaters) and I have never owned a perpetual calendar so this might be it. I have tried to like the 3940 or 5140 but somehow the connection was not there! I always compare the attraction and chemistry to ...

Is the Quintessential Patek Philippe, i say go for it you will never regret it, this case is really unique i myself prefer the black dial but i can see the white being more versatile. congratulations on the retirement. cheers.

one thing is for sure though, a perpetual calendar patek is one for the history books. Wear it well.

The 5940G is not the most popular watch. Isn't it nice to have something different? It is not round like virtually every other Patek. It has an alluring shape that many collectors reject summarily for that fact. To me, another plus. AND YOU LOVE THE WATCH...

I find the 5940g very attractive.. The dial color and minute pearls are really classy, it sports a perfect size as a classical perpetual calendar.. Although the case shape is abit of an odd ball, you have to see it in on the wrist to really appreciate it ...

And the even more unattainable 5959P next to the 5078.. Since you have 7200 London edition, I guess the 5959 must be your taste too a little sad PP discontinued the platinum version og this reference.

In my lounge, I have framed up a limited edition print of the movement of the 5959 and I agree that the platinum version (with the white dial) was sublime. I have tried that watch on twice but could not bring myself to sell my home and rent instead! At 33...

Aside from the size of the cushion case, it is very thin and very comfortable to wear. I had a crush on the 5940g for some time, and just could not seem to shake it. I finally gave in, and have not looked back. True romance. One of my favorite pieces.

Glad to hear that the relationship is still strong! I have had a long crush too on this piece and was somewhat shocked when Patek decided to discontinue production after two years. My last chance I think

...my pet-hate amongst collectors is when someone explains to me that one of my watches is "too small" or "too big" of "a bad balance" bla bla bla. Often, someone will tell me that my taste in a watch is "wrong". It is in the wrong metal....bla bla bla. N... 

I agree with you totally that we all have quite varying taste in watches. For example, I have tried very hard to like a Rolex or even a Nautilus but I tend to favour dress watches. Just my taste I guess and my comfort zone. Saying that I do wish that one ... 

depending on our past experiences and aren't absolute standards. We all express/share our pelasure and what pleases us in this passion of ours, this can be done considering that some tastes are not valued higher than others I enjoyed reading your comment....
