When we look at the evolution of the Patek Philippe
chronograph (in general)
it perfectly illustrates its uninterrupted, consistent
quality of watchmaking
the company has practiced throughout its history,
something hardly any of its
rivals can match.
First they started with pocket watches. Then they
started with wristwatch
chronographs in the 1920s, in 1923 they introduced
their first split-seconds
chronograph wristwatch and one year later they
presented their first
chronograph … So,
nothing to proof when it comes to history.
But this is not my topic today.
It is only
a few days before we will see the novelties from Basel 2013.
Therefore I
thought it could be nice to have a look what we have so far.
A few (outstanding) examples by Reference and/or picture from the past:

Chronographs – single & double:
Ref. …,
130, 530, 533, 591, 1436, 1463, 1506, 1554, 1563, 1579, 2499,
3670A, 5070, 5071,
5170, 5950, 5959, 7071

Chronograph´s with calendar function:
Ref. 1518,
2499, 3970, 3971, 3990, 5004, 5020, 5204, 5270, 5951, 5960, 5961,
5970, 5971
Did I miss anything?
The current collection of chronographs from Patek Philippe before Basel 2013:

It is
amazing which kind of variation they have on offer, isn´t it? Is there any
other brand offering that many different chronographs at the same time?
As always
before Basel there are rumors about
what will be new and what
will be discontinued. Will there be something like 5170G,
5980G … and 5959
is out of production?
What would you like to see if we talk about chronographs from Patek Philippe?
I could imagine to see something like this:

5170J (not discontinued), 5170G with silver dial and/or dark grey dial
The latter
is probably a dream only, but who knows
So, let´s see what you have in mind.
