Hi Nicolas, thanks for writing a post about my favorite topic , the 5131 enamel map !
Every version of the 5131 is a great. This P to me with the view from North Pole is an excellent depiction for the last version of this series. The bracelet was unexpected though.
When I handled this piece at my AD, I LOVED the heft of the platinum bracelet (just like the 5711 40th anniversary), even though I would have been happy with a normal blue or black leather strap. Was the bracelet specially designed for the Arctic map to match its temperature and ice as others suggested? I think only the Patek can answer this question. I think it might be a combination of design and pricing.
Quite a few big collectors have told me that the P is THE version to have because of the platinum case and bracelet.
As I said previously, upon examining the P at my AD, IMO the craftsmanship is comparable to the G and R but no better. Perhaps my feeling is due to the fact that the North Pole view entails fewer colors and hence less of an opportunity to provide color gradations.

With or without bracelet...it has me salivating
With bracelt for Black tie event....or with jeans on a lazy sunday. Strap for all other times. Small....very small chance it could happen this year. But 2018 for sure.
No need to change between bracelet and strap
I prefer a Croc/Alligator Strap with a deployment for most of my watches. The platinum bracelet on the 5131/1P-001, however, is a great change of pace and my guess is that most owners will not want to swap it out. It's likely they'll feel as I do ... that...

my 5131P arrived the shop and I'll pick it up at some stage. I think I know how one could convert the watch. However, I'm not sure if I will do that because this block of platinum gives an impression of cold and it's very cold in the Arctic. Best, Kari

... I might consider swapping out the bracelet for a strap? Even with a link or two removed my watch weighs over 200 grams. While it feels great to experience the heft of this watch for an evening (you really know you're wearing something of significance)...

I would not say that any particular metal is superior to the others. To me it all depends on each individual's preferences with respect to color and location. Platinum might not be very attractive to someone who live in South America? ...

Aaah, here I agree. With you and Joe, about the bracelet. Not a fan at all, BUT it is more in the spirit of this world time than of the 5960A which is a sporty watch.

When I saw this watch in the flesh
It made me heart beat much faster than it did on release. A 5131 in Platinum with a twist. It's a no brainer and I can't wait for 2018😉🙏🏼. M.

I love the fact that there are fewer colours.
For me 5131G is a bit too bright and 5131P fits perfectly to a man living in the area of the map of the watch. Best, Kari
Hi Kari, yes, for the northerners the dial of 5131P is a more realistic depiction of their living environment !

They're not comparable
The difference between the 5131G-001 and 5131-1/P-001 is huge. Yes they both have Cloisonné dials and are "5131's", but because of the bracelet on the "P" the two watches feel and look completely different. It's literally like they're not even in the same...

Everyone is entitled to have their opinion of what looks best ... but I'd like to coin a new term for putting the Blue Strap on the 5131/1P. Lol

Sometimes, I am tired of always black and blue strap. The nice of strap is you can always change the color. I heard one lady(Patek AD manager) said men are quite boring because most of them like black and blue. I may try other color strap. This is my 5131...
