I wear my watches here with prudence. A yellow gold and diamond dial daytona gets compliments but also stays hidden under a long sleeve. My work watch is a steel aquanaut and i am in the south bronx! The drug dealers surrounding me wear have fancier taste in AP and hublot. I think that a little judgement goes a long way, but then again living in new york is more about avoiding eye contact than hiding your assets. Enjoy whatever your favorite watch is, no one will bother you unless you are seeking it.

As a NYer here is my advice....
....stick with any white metal and you will be fine. First of all it's winter and you won't be walking around sleeveless. When indoors there won't be any safety issue Just use good judgement and enjoy your visit here
