Ok, I just read that only 500 pcs of the 3712 were produced in a one year period and then discontinued. Anyone know why?

Looks like quite a bit of difference that does not meet the eye. THE reason that PP moved to a 2 piece case construction form the original Genta 2 peice is just cost driven or was there perhaps a deemed flaw?

lasted from 1976 till 2006. That makes 30 years in total. I have never heard about problems with the case design. The two-part case makes it possible to build the watch also a little bit slimmer. If I remember right, 3712 is 0.2 mm slimmer than 5712. Anot... 

... what you call the "shoulder" is straight on the 3712, while its curved on the 5712. Nobody seems to noticed though. and 3712 is sightly slimmer. I think you did well, not so much for the reasons you mentioned, as they are purely personal. The 5712 is ... 

There are differences indeed. I once listed 7 differences but for me the case construction is the main difference. I have seen in different field a lot of "improved" versions. Very often the improvements are based on costs and that's the case in my opinio... 

I am looking at my 5712 and it looks to me that even though the case is made of three parts the only way to open it is from the shoulders.

The moder 5711 and 5712 share the same case construction. If I remember right, Patek still made some two years ago 5800 which was the last Nautilus with the original case construction. Before that they made 3710 till 2005 which had the two-parts case. Bes... 

someone asked what the differences were between it and the G models... ultimately, the details matter to very few. It was interesting to read the full-blown differences by dr. kol. But at the same time, I have to chuckle, because the watches are damned ne...

the only the case design and the basic design of Nautilus dial comes from Mr. Genta. Some of the elements of the dial of 3712 like the moon phase, small seconds and power reserve are Patek's design. Those elements come from the movement which was used muc... 

Patek service center confirms that the movement of 5712 and 5711 will be removed from the front, i.e. same as the 3700, 3712, etc. Although the new case consists of three pieces, the two parts (middle and lower parts) are fixed and can not be opened durin... 

I asked and got earlier the drawings of the new case construction from Patek Geneva. When I'll find the same from my huge files, I'll post those. Best, Kari
