It is ridiculous ...
The owner should be able to remember it is platinum and not white gold, so shouldn't need the reminder. The diamond is too small for others to notice, and even if someone does see it, I can't imagine someone taking note and saying "wow is that a little tiny diamond at 6 o clock, that must mean the watch case is platinum, and I'm so impressed".

Just out of curiosity, why is it some patek platinum watches have a diamond on the case at the 6 o'clock position whereas some don't? I was speaking with a dealer today who thought all PP Platinums have a diamond but I know that is not the case with the 5...
