Patek Philippe

Joe that is an amazing quartet!

It is quite worth mentioning how admirable Patek is with so many distinct lines of watches. Each has its own character but all embody Patek DNA. We go from perpetual calendar chronographs to minute repeaters to nautilus to aquanaut to world timers to chronographs to perpetual calendars to ellipse to of course Calatrava. I know the list does not end there but it was meant to illustrate more than specify each line. There are many impressive watch manufacturers out there with amazing history and heritage. But not one that can stand up against the breadth and depth of offerings like the house of Patek in my opinion. Looking at vintage pieces like yours Joe, it is evident that the aestethics and beauty of Patek has been a major force in defining what modern watch making is all about. There are many efforts to try the boundaries and in todays standards Patek is probably considered conservative and to some extent boring and less daring. However they are in it for the long haul and have proven over time, so far at least, that they know where they want to go.
Now to your pieces they are all spectacular. The one that speaks the most to me must be the 3417. Such a cool piece from such a special time in modern history. My other favorite is of course the 570. One of the most beautiful simple watch designs still to date in my opinion. It is a piece I have had the pleasure of handling in various iterations over the years and every time extremely compelling. But as my earlier post probably reveals, I have a particular weakness for the 565. The water resistant screw down case and the angles of the lugs and the modern look from the 40s is to me very remarkable. As I noted in my earlier post, had the 5565 not been fitted with cal. 215 I would have loved to add one to my collection.
My impression of the current line of Calatrava is that it is a line that has been neglected for some time and suspect if there was something new to come it should be in that space. With the trend and interest across the industry going to vintage inspired time pieces perhaps even Patek will release some vintage inspired time only watches. If so I trust it will be done the right way and very much look forward to seeing what comes of it. Perhaps the 5522 is a taste of what is to come?
Thanks again Joe for sharing your wonderful Calatravas!
