Maybe a "silver era."
If you start comparing the recent watches to those of the previous "golden era," I think you will find that the more recent one comes in second.
To me, it's the difference between making the best watch that can be made and then finishing it beautifully (the old way) and making compromises in design so that a watch can be finished easily and then finishing it beautifully. (I refer to the simple models; I'm not sure the same comparison applies to Patek's real top-end pieces.)

I can't help feeling that you are somewhat overstating things. I think there's a good argument that the 5107 itself, which you laud, was just chasing trends and trying to generate revenue rather than make a "lasting impression" on the horological communit...
