non-tourbillon on my 3970
I think what makes a difference more than the tourbillon is whether the
watch is automatic or manually wound. Most Pateks with
tourbillons are manually wound. Is it the tourbillon or the fact
that it's manually wound that made the difference. I know all of
my manually wound watches are incredibly accurate. My 3970 is so
accurate that twice a year when I have to set it back to/from daylight
savings time, it has gained at most 5 or 6 seconds. That's less
than 1 second per month! By the way, my 5970, which has the same
movement is also very accurate, and gains about 2 seconds per week.

I guess my basic point is that a Rattapante is not inherently complex, in the way a repeater might be thought of. This isn't to take away from the skill that it takes to make a truly fine one, in the way a chinese Tourbillon does not detract from a Patek ...
