Cognoscenti,
As many of you are aware I just purchased a 5905P and am in love with it. My only critique of it is that it did not come with a platinum deployant clasp and instead comes with the platinum tang buckle. My AD was unwilling to negotiate a swap of the platinum buckle for platinum deployant, which is fine, so I began searching for alternative solutions. I called HSWA in New York and was informed the price of a platinum deployant will be $4,800. I also spoke to a gray dealer in New York that has a new/unworn Patek watch with a platinum deployant, and he is willing to work a deal where he would sell me the new platinum deployant for only $3,500 but I would need to give him my platinum tang buckle to replace the deployant on the watch he is selling (which is fine because I’ll never use it again once I have the deployant). I can’t justify the $4,800 under any circumstance from HSWA, but $3,500 is doable — the question is, should I? If you were me, assuming you strongly desired a platinum deployant and did not prefer the tang, what would you do given the options?
