Many thanks to you, and to others who have posted. I do take the point that elegance is not the same thing as classicism, in the sense that elegance can be found in completely unexpected forms. However, I would suggest that elegance in a wristwatch embodies a timeless aesthetic (ironically perhaps), a watch that transcends temporary fashion trends and will be recognized as a fine artifact through the years. Such watches, and I think they are rarer than one might imagine, are "just right," no matter how different they may be from one another. These are of course just my musings - thanks again to those who responded. David.
