Date, GMT and Chronograph are the most current complications.
The 5164 just anwers to a specific demand, a travel time on the lowest priced watch in the Patek catalogue. But "a basic complication" compared to the other models...
And if they decide to put a GMT complication in an Aquanaut, I don't think that expects that Patek will put it into a Nautilus in the future.
Diversify a range, to purpose new models, but without shunting the Nautilus range...

The obvious answer
Is that there are already 2 complicated Nautilii, there's the 5712 with moonphase and RdM and the 5980 chronograph. To my knowledge there were no complications in the Aquanaut line, so it made sense to add one there. A

Tool watch
While it's hard to call any Patek a tool watch the Aquanaut probably comes closest. It also seems that the Nautilus has become more sophisticated with its complications so maybe this is a way of rebalancing the twin lines. I can't see Patek putting this c...
I see two reasons.
First reason was given by Aaron. Second reason (for me) was to create a real summer travel watch: the Aquanaut is a more all-around watch than the Nautilus and the second timezone complication can be useful during a summer trip. Fx...
