I kept saying from late 2015 or eearly 2016 that we felt from discussions with ADs, interviews from staff etc that Patek didn't want to celbrate the 40th too much. people were expecting because it was 40 but not really Patek.
People were waiting so much for something that Patek had to do something. No celebrations but a little limited edition to mark the event.
They decided, in that context, not to go for a complete change or creating a watch that will match the majority's expectations but a little something more original. Thus, the choice of baguettes (which remain quite discreet in the metal from what I saw in the past) and the bigger size for the 5976.
In fact people's expectations were not in phase with how Patek wanted to handle the event. The Nautilus already has a large visibility and they don't want more. Thus the production limitations (and not artificial rarity I read here and there), especially when in Steel.
In fact a lot of the remarks I read since yesterday are partly due to a misunderstanding.
However, this embossment is something unnecessary to say the least (even if I understand it is quite discreet in the metal).
Well, that's only one event among others and we'll have many more novelties in the future. This edition doesn't make what will be Patek in the future either!
Thank you Ovi for sharing your opinion.
Cheers, Mark
