I did it. I toyed with the idea for months... I took advantage of the recent market and consolidated big time. I gave up a 5170G-001, 3940J-018 and 5980-001. Now I have two PP’s left. The 5270P-001 and the 5960/1A-010. Will I miss the Nautilus and the cla...  

The black dialed 5960A is definitely a darling in my collection.

Two very good choices. Doubt you’ll miss the Nautilus after awhile.

There were many sleepless nights for sure before I came to this decision. Even during the execution of the deals, I was questioning myself too...

It was very interesting to hear two watchmakers tell me the same thing about the brand. Great brand. Great product. But you only need one and it doesn’t matter which one. Just pick one you like. That’s what they said to me.

It was tricky, because the buyer and seller are different. Took some careful planning to make sure the transactions happened when they should have happened.

It takes a lot of courage but the end result is always satisfying!!

I feel like it’s a cycle. We all go through a consolidation phase and then an expansion phase. Then we start over again. Hahahaha.

It is much more better to have two or three outstanding pieces than a lot of second-best watches. Congratulations for being so consequent!

That’s partly my logic too. I just have to keep reminding myself that when I have second thoughts.

Especially that Salmon dial 👌🏻 its so beautiful . Maybe i need to consolidate as well at some point . Not there yet 😬

I got to see the salmon-dial Patek Chronograph at an AD in Beverly I could only have one Patek, that may well be it! You have excellent taste. Thank you for sharing!

It’s a mind vs heart discussion. In the end, I think both my mind and heart wanted to do this. The 5270P does the same, if not more, to my emotions as the Nautilus.

I got to see one of these in person a few weeks back.. Clearly on my list of wants. Have considered some trade ins towards the purchase as well but have yet to be able to part with some of those pieces.. So will either save a bit more.. and lust ... or do... 

So unloved, at the same time... I love the way it looks. I love the way it wears. That’s why it’s the only other PP I keep along with 5270P.

Looks like you’ve done a great deal On the perpetual calendar chronograph I was wondering what that aperture left of the moon face is for?

On the left aperture, it’s a day/night indicator. It notifies us of the danger zone, ie. when to or not to adjust the calendar.

I would wear the 5960 on the bracelet though 😉 Enjoy your couple in the best health!

I love the 5960 bracelet. In fact, I actually think it’s the most comfortable bracelet in the industry... For me, it’s better than the Rolex Oyster, Jubilee... Better than the PP Nautilus. Unfortunately, I swapped it out, because I couldn’t get the perfec... 

I have the 1.5 link for my Nautilus, but I still have some issues. My wrist changes a lot depending on temperature and humidity, which causes me problems with bracelets. I used to "play" quite often with the links and 1.5 links myself, but it caused big i... 

… I have been pondering the same strategy myself now for awhile.

To decide and to execute. I am lucky that the market was on my side when I decided and when I executed.

Owning a Grand Comp at that level was only a dream for many years. I joked about trading in my 5980 for it a few months back. I still can’t believe I’ve actually done it. Hahaha

I believe you made the right choice !

Congratulations to your new acquisition.... it is always a sweet process (hunting of new pieces) after consolidation.

I also feel that as time goes on, we “mature” as collectors and develop different strategies or themes in our collections. At the end of the day, it’s a hobby and it should make one happy and not stressful!

There are many here envious I’m sure of your being able to make this move, to sell, consolidate. I’ve taken baby steps myself, but keep getting distracted along the way. Plus, it’s a slow process.

I would be extremely hesitant to get rid of my 5980, but this was a worthy sacrifice. I absolutely love the Salmon dial.

I’m not lucky enough for the Daytona... Hahahaha. Curious, among the Sky Dweller, Sub (no date), and Batman (v1 and v2), which would be the one you include in this hypothetical 3-watch collection?

watch. If you like the size that might be the one. If not, Batman is excellent. Version 2 has a 70 hour power reserve, but you have to like the Jubilee bracelet. I prefer version -1 on the Oyster. Also I like that it is discontinued and is the only steel ... 

I always thought the Sky Dweller would be a perfect one watch collection, though the size may be limiting. It’s the most complicated Rolex with very useful set of functions. It’s also robust and versatile enough for most conditions and scenarios. I too al... 

But one I’m sure you won’t regret. Enjoy the two you have sacrificed for a Patek PCC and a 5960 is not much of a sacrifice in my book. Enjoy that wonderful Pair and I’m sure the Salmon dial will mesmerise you for hours like mine does me. Wear and stare in... 

I just wished the 5960 is a bit more water resistant, so I could do without another watch for the pool.

IMHO, I think you made the perfect choice! This is definitely the 2 I would have over the original 4 pieces. Congrats!!!

and consolidated down to 2 pieces, and one of them is also a 5960 (but the original P-001) and the other is my old faithful Rolex Exp II 16570 with Polar dial. So at least I followed some of the advice!

Hee hee. I’ve always thought about becoming an one-watch man... Or perhaps two-watch. Maybe one day I will. When I can resist all the temptations of the world.

I parted with it after it stopped running for me twice. I sent the watch back to the spa... After the second time, I sold it. It was a nice watch, but it didn’t scream quality like the 5960 IMHO. Do I miss it? A bit, because I’d love to have a water resis... 

You are playing the game on a whole different level but I admire your luxury minimalist approach!

I don’t mean resale value of these watches, but what I feel about these watches. So far, I still love them a great deal.
