Very Unfortunate Scam.......
It appears that a fake Patek Philippe 1579 is up for auction at schmidt antiques in Michigan on April 23. It’s already bid up to $15,000. There are several things that are very wrong with this:
1) It seems that some of the movement engravings are machined, not hand done. The overall finishing of the caliber is really rough and most definitely not Patek Philippe.
2) Also there are jewels missing from the movement.
3) If you look up the case number, it's also identical with another totally different ref 1579 that popped up on auction at Antiquorum in 1999.
4) Formatting of caseback reference numbers is all off too and I don't think I've ever seen any 1579 come with a non-contrast chrono hand.
Hope this serves as a warning - in this wonderful hobby, you are buying the seller just as much as you are the watch itself!
