Patek Philippe

With pleasure...

This is my personal and thus subjective opinion but this is how I see it.

There are the Nautilus and the RO, first, and in a very different category the Overseas.

The RO is a little more interesting as a beautiful sculpture. This is Art in the design.

But the Nautilus is more elegant (and as beautiful) and has this lightness the RO has not as much.

What makes me prefer the Nautilus to the RO is:

- the dial material which is more interesting in the Nautilus (pattern and coating which light reflection are beautiful in the Nautilus)

- the 234 movement which I prefer: a little more decoration, more appealing bridges' shape to me. And I really don't like the external rotor ring of the 2120.

Hence the Nautilus is slightly at the 1st position, before the RO15202, to me.

I think the Overseas is much different because it is much bigger and much thicker. I like the bracelet design (the Malta cross pattern), the bezel but it is quite heavy looking and much more sporty. It is not what I call an elegant watch as are the RO or the Nautilus  (which can be dressy). The Overseas is more a tool watch to me considering the size criterion.

The movement finish has nothing to do with the other two (it is hidden) and I like looking at a nicely finished movement. It is part of my pleasure in watches.

But, in the mean time, I know some members on this forum with a very nice collection who possess an Overseas watch for quite a long time, so this is certainly something to consider. This is not a judgment of course.

I just think it is a completely different watch.

I would nearly consider comparing an Overseas to a Rolex (Daytona for instance) rather than to a Nautilus or a RO.

Concerning the bracelet size problem, if I had the same climate problem where I live, I'm sure I'd still possess my 5712 and have it a little loose for winter, which means it would be ok for summer time (or I would go twice a year have one link changed for the upcoming season).

Concerning the sticky date issue: first I'm sure this concerned a very little volume we hear about (but this is my opinion, I don't have statistics). And it wouldn't stop me at all. If I have the problem I send it to Patek as I read it is definitely fixed.

So no real problem for me.

In other words, if one likes the Nautilus, he shouldn't hold on his decision to this matter.

Cheers, Mark
