Without going into market values, I think you'd definitely be making an upgrade with a 5170P...It might be less of a daily beater, depending on the use you are currently making of the 5712, but unarguably a superb choice! ;-)

You have a better chance getting a 5070G even. Remember what you want for your watch is not always what the dealer will pay.

Believe it or not, I don't wear the 5712 as a daily beater - I use it nearly exclusively with smarter attire... so the 5170P would have the same purpose. Best, Robert

I have the same hesitancy too. 5170P is a great timepiece, no doubt.

IMO you should pull the trigger if you like the 5170P as much or more than the 5712. To me, putting aside the popularity of the 5712, the 5170P is at a different level due to it’s chrono function, platinum case, and the subtle baguette diamond hour marker...

Since you already stated that you have other watches, a Daytona, thr 5170P would not be your only watch which makes more sense. If thr 5170P would be your only watch, then the 5712/1A would probably be a better choice. In the end, it is your decision but ...
