Thank you, Ken. With my new affinity for Grand Seiko, I’m almost afraid to go to Japan. New watch acquisitions would exponentially multiply the cost of the trip!
Advice on how to bring out the pattern on the dial?
This is a Grand Seiko SBGY009. Inside, the dial looks almost black. When you bring it out in the sun, you can begin to see the very cool pattern on thr dial. But even in the sun, it is hard to catch the entire pattern. Does anyone have any advice for a ca...
Some say that inside your car it sometimes works perfectly.

For the dial pic, I'd say in the car, too.
That really is a beautiful dial on your Grand Seiko.
My only suggestion would be to play around with the watch at different angles as opposed to head on if that helps at all. Marc
The loupe is a great idea, at least for personal enjoyment (unless there’s a way to rig a camera to take photos through a loupe)?
And your photo of your beautiful birch GS (as well as the watch) is spectacular?
"Inside a car" is an excellent suggestion if your car has a (closed) roof with the sun directly overhead. This ensures you will have reasonably strong indirect balanced light from multiple
directions which will help show the dial's details without any direct harsh glare. Cloudy weather can also help provide balanced even light.
I've had mine for 2 years now...
And only once was I able to capture the dial's features. Greatly disappointing as far as I am concerned. ...
