As respectfully as I can, I would to ask Richard Mille what they really think their new policy will do in slowing down the replica market of RM's
I despise replicas, I will never own one and when I see someone wearing one I let my opinion (facts) be known. This has even put me in some very heated arguments in cases. However, I don't think the policy of not taking photos at SIHH 2014 will make one bit of difference. At all.
First of all every replica out there can be seen as a replica even from a distance. There are a couple that may, at a fast glance, look like one. I am not mentioning any models here, but when looking from 3 feet away it is not even close. The people making the replicas are not trying to make every bridge and surface or part that exact. Simply put, they cannot do this and still make money, the horrible bastards that they are.
Even the so called "super fakes", an oxy moron if I have ever heard one, are not even close to looking like RMs when you really look at them, and I am sure the people making them will agree. They have some characteristics but again they are doing what is easy and cost effective. The Movement will never be close, especially with all the tourbillons they make and lets face it there is a basic shape of an RM case. Round cases aside.
What this has done is limited people like me who look forward to this time of year and have countdowns to SIHH, from seeing and sharing in the new, amazing watches that they produce. I am seriously very bummed about this, there is a scratch that was not itched this year and I am disappointed. I did not see a thread like this so thought I would ask if you all are also missing the new RM's this year.
Last thing. RM posted press pics and they are plenty enough to make a fake, again they don't need internal dimensions here, and the back of the fakes look nothing like the authentic RM's. I don't think there is anyway to harm the replica market this way. If it did, it would be over when one person goes into a boutique and takes a pic. You cannot just hide your product and think that would outweigh the benefit of halting replicas. I share in their frustration, yeah it sucks they are out there but this is hurting more of their followers than the replica market.
