Appears to be a Datejust 6305 from the early 50ies.
With big bubble back movement (so called because of its rotor needing space and hence the round caseback).
The movement needs an expert to look after and parts are hard to find. When restoring an early Explorer 6298, I bought a second movement for parts.
Enjoy the patinated beauty in the best of health!

Are there any markings in the blades of the clasp? Serial numbers in the 6 million range are 1979-1980... but the dial markers and hands look older. I think you're going to need to get it opened for a close look. Lovely looking datejust!
a "4" or an "A"?

Can't quite tell from the picture... If it's an "A" it would suggest the clasp is a few years older (1976) than the case (1979) which is not unusual. I'm pretty sure that should say, "Stainless" (as in steel) not "Sterling" (as in silver). But I could be...
