thanks for the great write up, another reference post on the forum.

Unless you use gamma spectrometry, you cannot identify any kind of radioactive element.

Especially  with a Geiger counter, which was not invented for that purpose by the way.

The Geiger counter just tells you if something emits radiations or not, which is roughly what people want to know when they have to tell if a dial was relumed or not.
