after dealing with some sub-par choices for her watch to match with her yellow gold jewelery and "lending" her pieces out of my collection I thought time has come to reward her for the incredibly hard work and all the energy she puts into working part-time, dealing with most of the daily chores in the house and being the best mother for our daughter and best wife I could have ever wished for.
So this time it is anything but sub-par and IMHO one of the best choices for a non-WIS person to dip her feet into the Vintage genre - the humble and classic Oyster Perpetual Date:

Nice original dial and hands

Ref 1505

Case in honest condition with wear marks but not overpolished

Man, I can tell you that it was not that easy to find a nice and honest example for a reasonable price.
There are perfect examples out there for a fair bit of money and there are lots of cheap lemons with overpolished, softened cases, repainted dials and all sorts of funny stuff.
When I tracked down this watch at eBay in Canada I found out that it had just been serviced and the fact that it came without a bracelet was no problem for me, as my wife prefers a watch this blingy on a leather strap, with a two-tone Oyster, it would be too "loud" for her style. So I still managed to negotiate the already very good price a bit and off it went back to the "old world", almost back to the place where it was born in 1978, just to one of the neighboring countries.
Sorry for the crappy pics, I just had a few quick shots before I had to hide it again from my wife. I will post better pictures when I have found a nice leather strap and an original Rolex buckle for it.
Now the poor Rolex will be hidden until late September for my wifes Birthday, I think she will like it a lot, it will be a nice companion for her JLC Reverso.
Finding an original 16mm gold-plated Rolex pin buckle will be a difficult task, there are several offered at the moment but I feel the prices asked are sometimes a bit silly and there are lots of fakes around, too. The old bargain hunter that I am I think I will get that sorted until September too, I'll keep my eyes open!
