Rolex

The climbing watch

Well Nicolas, this is what I found on another website:

"The Rolex Explorer was designed and made to supply the members of the 1953 expedition to reach the summit of Mount Everest. Edmund Hilary and Tenzing Norgay, on May 29, 1953, were the first to reach the summit of Everest. While Rolex Explorer watches were supplied to all the members of the expedition, as Rolex was the official supplier of the expedition, Edmund Hilary chose to wear a Smith watch. Smith, an English watchmaking company was also a sponsor of the 1953 Everest expedition."

We are talking about Explorer I here of course. I only can say to you that I wasn't there (surprise!), so I cannot say for sure. I actually don't give a damn either. Oh yes; elsewhere on the net is claimed that Hilary was wearing an IWC Ingenieur 1955 on one occasion. How come no one ever asks what I am wearing driving to the office? Well, just to be sure of no speculations in about 50 years from now: Starman was wearing his Blancpain Aqualung when driving to the office on October 14th 2009 LOL.

Best,

Starman
