Thank you for the very nice review Nico.

Since getting this one 3 months ago it hasn’t come off my wrist and I don’t remember the last time I was so in love with a watch.

I agree with the majority of your review with the exception of the smiley letters on the dial, I never liked it on the older BB’s and in my humble opinion would not be period correct to the 7922, this is also the case with the snowflake hour hand, but I understand that one is reserved for the crown.

If there is one thing I wouldn’t mind that was different, is the crown, although it is the correct shape (not like a cap as on the other BB’s) would it not have been super cool and also correct if it was a big crown like on the new BB41, and I say correct since the vintage models with a big crown where the ones that had the 200 meters waterproofness!

In my humble opinion this model with its 37MM case (not 39 like the BB58)  and a big crown, would be a perfect homage to the 7924, what do you think?

Other than that I wouldn’t change anything on it, love the vintage look with the reliability of new materials and technology and incredible accuracy, less than half a second a day!!!

Take care.

Watches and Wonders 2023: Some thoughts on the Tudor Black Bay 54.

 By: amanico : November 7th, 2023-08:57
This year Tudor surprises us with a Black Bay GMT " Opaline " AND with a watch which is courageous, the Black Bay 54 with a... 37 mm case, defying all those who think that 37 mm is too small, and trying to demonstrate the contrary. Well, for those who thi...

Thank you for the interesting article and your effort.

I am one of those thinking 37, 38 mm is not enough at least for my wrist. Hence for one it is good, for the other it is not. Although I like the Tudors very much.

Ok👍

Thoughtful piece, thank you.

I was impressed when I saw these for the first time, especially the proportions and case thickness. Great watch

What I think, too.

Thanks Nicolas for your thorough résumé!

While it is soooo tiny for the standards of our times, the watch is an absolute joy! I have a couple of thoughts, nonetheless: - They are getting even closer to the original models with each new release, specially regarding the crown and the case thicknes...

Great write up as always

The big question though is, will you buy one? Being a dive watch person, having small doxa subs and having been looking for gold hands it is right up my alley yet in person it felt tiny, even more so than the 58.

I’m a Tudor guy. One my best is this one.

Ooooof, crazy!

Thank you Nicolas for this very nice review. A friend of mine got this as his first fine watch and i was thinking about buying one this summer, too. I ended up with the NTTD however because, given i have a few pieces, it looks just a little bit more

Special. I was also thinking about the dial finish. A raw black would have been the obvious choice imo, but you have to differentiate a bit to make 58 owners want the 54 as well ;-)

Thank you for this great report and your thoughts, Nico!

With respect to the overall strategy, Rolex is most focused on evolution (moving forward) while Tudor is focused on devolution (referring to the past). I love reissue pieces, which we will never see from Rolex. With the BB54, Tudor went to the history vau...

Thank you for the passion and knowledge

Tudor has been making amazing tribute release vs Rolex evolutionary release

Thanks for the wonderful review and pictures

So many short articles written about the BB54 -- yours is best, given your appreciation for history and the comparative pictures. The 54 has really grown on me. I love my black 58 but the the size of the 54, coupled with the vintage elements and less gold...

Lovely report, mon ami!

Haven’t gotten to see one yet, but it looks like another killer from Tudor. Hard to argue with most of their releases lately, frankly — price, performance, cool, etc… Agree with you on the bezel. Fantastic. Interested to see how good the bracelet is. ...

Great shot of the 58 and a nice, big wrist to boot

 By: JohnFM : November 8th, 2023-01:41
Love the strap too.

Thanks!

Well, my friend, the " smiley " wording is correct to the 7922 and 7924. After it is a matter of aesthetics preferences, but historically correct.

 By: amanico : November 7th, 2023-20:44
As for the big crown, I agree. It would have been uber cool to get something even closer to the 7924! ...

I am so happy about this downward trend

 By: andrea~ : November 7th, 2023-21:43
If I didn't already own a BB58 I would have bought it. It's an even better size.

For the true fan, indeed.

Great essay and I agree to many of your aspects positioned! 👏🏻

If I would not own a BB58, I would buy the BB54! However, although it‘s basically the same watch, it is astonishing how much more vintage vibes the BB54 radiates! For me almost too much vintage! MY choice would be the BB58 with (very) slightly thinner han...

Well written article...

....I'm enjoying my 54. I would actually like a bigger crown for easier adjustment, and perhaps the rose and smiley face. I agree that they should come out with a BB54 GMT in the future The bracelet with the micro-adjustment is cool! ...

Hello dear Nicolas! Agree with your thoughts (and few critics) on this lovely watch. Interesting post you share here.

 By: Subexplorer : November 8th, 2023-14:38
I already have it in my wish list! (Greedy Dexter!!). I specially like the size and bezel, and I only regret Tudor didn´t return to the rose emblem and "smile" inscriptions of the first Black Bay. A lollipop seconds hands, pencil handset and red inscripti...

For sure! :))))

Thanks for such an interesting article, I look forward to trying the watch when I next see it 😀. Warm regards Drek

Looks great!

 By: NautNut : November 8th, 2023-21:40
IMHO I believe Tudor wears slightly bigger so I could see this size working.

Great review my friend.

Thank you for the effort. I am also one of the “if only it was a few mm bigger “ unfortunately and had one on my wrist to try not long after launch. I agree with everything you say about it and think Tudor did a fantastic job for the vintage lovers. The b...
