When I buy something, I only buy something I'm crazy about!

When I first saw this one cold morning in Geneva, I was STUNNED!  WOW!  Oh my goodness that thing was cool.  Goodness!  I thought about it every day for over two months.  No exaggeration.  Some days I thought of it twice or thrice a day.  Then, realizing one night that I had to have it, I went back to MB&F and said I had to have it - I sent an email stating I had to have it and that I had been thinking about it every day for two months.  Well, the director at the M.A.D. Gallery knew that I was absolutely crazy about this piece and he had a lot of empathy for me, but his hands were tied because all of the pieces allocated for his store were spoken for.  Herve is a wonderful man and a wonderful Boutique Director.  So he kept a close eye for me and was able to get one for me.  Today, every time I see the piece, I think of the wonderful gentlemen at MB&F who were involved, the Co-Founder, the Marketing Director, and the Boutique Director.

Now, if you're thinking about that Rolex every day for two months!  Maybe you might need to get another one just like it!

Reminiscing...

My former 118238. Sometimes I wonder whether this was worth parting with; often this occurs when I'm a little bit tired. Despite its faults, the watch was still generally wonderful. So then I regret having sold it. With where I am now, it still makes some...

There are maybe 10 watches I regret having parted with, in my whole life. Most of those I parted with, no, because as you said, it was a step in my journey.

Among the ten I let go, I tried to buy them again. Example: The Rolex Yacht Master. Some I cannot, because they went too high in price. Painful... Best, Nicolas

Thanks for being honest.

It is painful when you try and realize you can't. Sometimes you don't know what you had until it's gone--not always--but sometimes. Cheers.

Only one did I regret

I sold an Explorer 1 and I rebought it. Still I wish I had kept the original one as it had a meaning to me i underestimated.

One is better than two, and so on...

Glad you got it back, even if not that exact one. Underestimated meaning is a tricky thing to deal with; this is something I experience at times as well.

I had a few, but the one I really regret is the Saltarello.

Most others I bought back but slowly they left again… Similar to getting back with an Ex, never works )) ...

Ha! Maybe a case of the grass seeming greener on the other side.

I've sold few watches.

For me there are 2 types of "regrets". The easy one: Watches I sold for market price at the time (or less ) and now require stupid money. No real regrets here, for investment the stock market is my friend., The 2nd one, and that's not easy, is watches I s...

Looks stunning.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

No regrets!

While your lovely Rolex is a wonderful wonderful watch and a dream watch for many, there was a reason why you let it go. You weren't crazy about it. And that's why you made the decision to let it go. If you got it back today, chances are, you'd still have...

Very clear and very right, you are...

As much as I might have trouble admitting it, you're probably hitting the nail right on the head. Thank you for that!

I don't want the public to know how obsessive I get sometimes!

Great post, Patrick

And great advice. Take time to see how you feel about it.

Exactly!

But Rolex is definitely a keeper as I just notice the partial gold submariner/ GMT prices increased from $18k to $23k within a span of 3-4years while chit-chatting with colleagues during wristshot taking! Damn, I should bought it last time round although ...
