Absolutely agree with your thoughts about the so called Williard model Gerard!
I own both the original and reissue and love both though my heart has a special fondness for the vintage one.
Seiko made a great job making the reissue very faithful to the original and I only wished that Seiko would have kept the size of the vintage for the new version.
Anyway I enjoy so much wearing both.

Iconic Seiko diver design.
I think that the "Capt. Willard" is one of the most iconic diver designs from the 70ies ....and on par with others from Rolex,Omega BP,Doxa ,etc .... Despite the 44m case,and thanks to the short lug-to-lug, this SLA049J1 wears well on my wrist. Best, Gera...
Iconic design is right. Also one of the few
designs where the offset crown works well and does not seem off.
The crown design is certainly part of the overall design language.
Although less easy to operate as 3 o'clock position crowns !
