Seiko

If only this watch could talk...

For everybody else this is just unremarkable, beat-up old Seiko with a 0-Jewel Quartz Movement and a rattly, folded bracelet. But for me this is so much more - it was the first "real" watch I got from my parents when I was about 12 years old. Fast forward 25 years later - in the meantime I became a "watch guy" with many other timepieces in my collection but from time to time this old friend of mine finds its was back in my wrist. Not only for sentimental reasons, but because I still like it for what it is - a robust, no-nonsense watch with a nice size and a tinny but comfortable bracelet.

This little Seiko was my only watch which I wrote every Single day for about 15 years and it really shows - chipped and scratched mineral crystal and countless severe marks on the case and bracelet. One day it received such a vicious blow that the dial feet Broker off. My parents brought it to the local watch repair shop in our small town and the blacksmith, err I mean watchmaker there fixed that in a creative way. He drilled two holes through the dial and movement plate and drove two pins in it:

Well, as a kid I didn't a f**k about it, I was happy my watch was working again - which it did and still does. This watch went with me through everything - good times, bad times and everything in between. Apart from the "repair" of the dial and new batteries it never got any kind of maintenance. That was until a few years ago when the crystal started fogging up when I was wearing it. I decided to get new gaskets installed along with the next new battery and there she is -happily ticking along for the (hopefully) next 25 years.
