I saw some in San Diego when I was at the RedBull Airshow
They had college looking students on these pedal powered rickshaws in San Diego near the GasLamp district. They were really aggressive in traffic (IMO not a good idea to battle it out with cars that will crush you) and were nagging tourists to hire them.

It's called an 'Auto Rickshaw' in India....
There are thousands of those here in India, used mainly as an urban cab....

I use to be taken to school in one every morning when I lived in Jakarta , Indonesia as a kid never would have believed I see one on the road here in the US. Great post

we have cycle rickshaws in London now, licenced and legal
i'm not sure i'd want to be sitting at exhaust level and being cycled around. its good for the environment, but not for the rider or passenger. graham

this can feed 12 pax incl. the driver w/o the back cover In Jakarta it is name after its manufacture Bajaj which they partner with Piaggio to make the above in India...

each next to the driver, then the center row face to face each 3 so it is 6, then at the back where there is no cover can sit another 3, so total 12. this is no kidding, during my visit there a few attempt try to take picture but failed

its quite a reliable transporter within housewives, from home to market. maybe they like the noises and vibration. LOLOL
That doesn't surprise me.
When I was in Thailand, the hotel staff advised me to not use any Tuk Tuks out of fear of being cheated. But I still wished I could get an experience in one...
