Hello,
The watchmaker has said he will pay for the piece. The case does not need to be replaced and yes a gentle reminder is in order. I have ordered parts before from the same watchmaker and I think he waits until he has a large enough order to submit it to Ulysse Nardin.
I dropped by yesterday and he showed me his order number and said he would call Toronto on Monday to see where the item is. I did order a watch band from them that for a Ulysse Nardin once before and it took 3 months! Hard to imagine that they are a authorized dealer.

According to the watch serial number you have provided, it is a Maxi Marine Chronometer 41 mm, and not an 1846. The tube you refer to is screwed into the lug on one side to hold the tube in place, and to complete the look a srcew is used on the other side...
