During the past few months I’ve hinted few times at my new watch that would be arriving soon.
In the beginning still bit mysterious as wasn’t 100% done deal yet but in the end I shared that my latest addition to the collection was the Vacheron Constantin Traditionelle Perpetual Calendar Chronograph in Platinum.
It was a special gift from my wife celebrating a.o. I had sold our business and retired as per 22 August (perhaps I should start work again and retire next year for second time who knows if there will be another watch)
The reason delivery took bit longer is because the watch was sent back to Geneva because the VC Master Engraver we going to put a small but personal message on the back side of the case (more to follow and wow the title Master Engraver was indeed well earned as she made the most incredible engravings like snakes and dragons in some of the top pieces)
But watch first:
It came in an impressive big and especially very heavy wooden box which was inside carton box

Pushing both metal pushers will allow the box to be opened and reveal its content

Next to the watch is a automatic watchwinder designed for manual wind watches and adjusted and set to hold the watch steady while the winding mechanism “graphs” the crown with extreme precision. It then winds the crown till certain torque level has been reached, roll backwards twice to prevent over-stretching and then it stops. The winder will repeat this every 24 hours until the watch is removed.
Fortunately (although probably well thought out and intended) the whole thing is battery powered so it can be stored in a safe (you will need a big safe though
The back part of the main box is closed with a lid. When opened it contains a little pouch (like the one VC is using for most models. Inside that pouch there is the Watch Passport with all relevant serial numbers ex etc, a USB stick with operating manual etc, a magnifying glass, travel pouch and adjustment tool to be used to operate the pushers that will set date day month leap year and moon date. These can all be set independently which turns adjusting these settings into piece of cake

And finally the watch itself

I love the dial with its different but perfectl matching grades of grey and black, the sub-dials slightly recessed, hour markers simple but clear and as piece de resistance the white gold moonphase (which is hidden)
On the back side open view of the superb movement
And on the outer part of the backside engraving.
The message “Tempus Indefinite” didn’t fit (you would need a microscope to read it)
But instead of changing the message we expressed it in symbols. The engraved hands to express time or Tempus and the mathematical symbol to express Indefinite
Finally a very big thank you to the Vacheron team in the boutique in Dubai, the regional Middle East VC leadership team , the head office senior executive team for inviting us to Geneva to witness the engraving personally (plus for incredible hospitality) and special thanks to the master engraver
But this post wouldn’t be complete without a big thank you to my loving wife for giving me the watch that’s been my holy grail from day 1 on
Love you honey ❤️
