Easy done!...
...and anyone who says otherwise is being just a tad too coy!
Hey Mike, good to 'see' you. This is a very good idea. There was a guy once who started a 'bring out yer dead' thread: it didn't get a whole lot of traction, from memory, because we like to pretend that we are madly in love with everything in the watchbox. But if that were the case, there'd be nothing on Collectors' Market and we would be seeing a whole lot more of some very dusty watches, such as (in your case) your Graham. We ALL have a watch which we bought before our sensitivities developed, or a watch we would sell if it were the only way to fund the next must-have piece.
Here's a few for the end of year: perhaps the New Year's resolution should be to send them off to more appreciative homes. Not that there is anything at all wrong with the watches, the style or the choice: just that 'things change'...
The Glycine Combat: the red-ness of it seemed so funky at the time. Now every second watch and its mother is red.
The Tag Heuer Twin-time. It was intended to be a 'sleeper' that nobody at the office would so much as notice; a watch to 'fit in' with the crowd. It's a sleeper all right!
The Zenith El Primero Chronometre. A great watch - really a great watch. These ageing eyes, however, struggle with the scant contrast between hands and dial (not so obvious in this photo), and it is a reasonably 'busy' watch for someone who pretends to prefer ultra-simple watches.
This is perhaps a more controversial choice. The original JLC MUT. Having argued for several years that it should be a feature in every watchbox, the introduction of the sublime Anniversary MUT at SIHH this year suddenly silenced the argument. This may be one of the few instances where the 'cover' version overtakes the 'original' tune.
Finally, the Stowa Marine Original (of which there are half a dozen iterations: three in the watchbox). Inexpensive. Solid. Pleasing. See it next to its doppelganger Dornblüth, however, and you want to buy another Dornblüth.
So, there's a bit of seasonal honesty for you Mike. Hopefully that isn't too much honesty for one thread (and no offence intended to the other fans of these watches).
Best wishes for the season and for the new year to you, to the other mods, and to all PuristS and their kin.
Cheers,
pplater.
