.....if someone asked me...."Is there any of your watches that you would not sell?", then my answer is very clear. I would sell any and every of my watches.
But now let me clarify....watches are our hobby...our passion. But of course they come a long way behind issues like family, health etc. So, if i was ever in a position where I had to sell a watch because of such a priority, then sure it would be something I could do. Now, the next question would be, if i was in that position, what watch would be the first to go? And for me, it is a question of weighing up just how much i love each one in my collection. For me, it would be this one....the Explorer 2. Its not that I don't love this watch...i do. Simply that I love others a lot more. Plausibly, I might add the JLC Mk 11 to the Explorer 2.
Thankfully, i don't need to sell either....but if i had to then these two would probably be on my list.
As we recover from our holiday festivities and focus on the upcoming New Years, one post on HoME reflected on a very common phenomenon...It is so easy to add watches to our collection but sometimes very difficult to wean. So for the last Wristscan of 2013...
You usually have an answer for everything! :-) The theme is difficult for some, easy for others. In the end, I'd love to see out of all your watches, which one would you give up if forced to chose. Best, Mike
and not be "turned off" by the theme. Actually I'm sort of happy that the topic is making everyone think...hence the "time of reflection" It is not really meant for those who sell or trade but for all... I am sure each of us have made a purchase that we'v...

.. a bit like apples with oranges, I feel ; guess I'd think it over a bit; .- still, that's a pretty nice theme, Joe ! So the turkey is history, the New Year ahead of us, so is SIHH 2014, Hmmm.... I'll be somewhat curious, what will be in the box.. Best, ...
It takes a completely different turn… Well,if pushed against the wall, every dissection on our beloved watches goes out of the window… If in emergency I doubt we will lightheartedly discern which to keep or which to let go….We will aim straight away for th...
. . . a more nuanced theme, Patrice. You've heard the saying, "If you love something, be prepared to let it go"? In a similar vein, Mike is asking if there's a watch in your collection you're prepared to part with. Sincerely, Art
Too many theme kills the theme ! You obviously loose spontaneity from week to week. I like " theme " but punctually, for very precise opportunities. I don't know in advance what i will wear on my wrist the next day, sometimes even the same day !!! The " F...
" Hey, guys, look at this beautiful Watch I have on my wrist, and which I will let go "... To the one who is interested... You see the problem? Best, Nicolas
...that posting a photo of a watch in this thread (and therefore admitting that it may be at the bottom of one's preferences) might actually reduce its value if and when posted for sale! A sort of anti-shilling, if you will... Best, as always, Gary
. . . but as a theme for WS, and with everyone participating, I would hope it would be seen as Mike meant it to be perceived, as an exercise for sharing the development of our collections in all their phases, including the final stage. Shilling is defined...
We are all friends here…usually always the same ones….If we sell,we will PM….. Like if you would like to part from your Freak,I trust you will PM me first!:):) Mo
because he realized after he took new photos that he had second thoughts already :-) Perhaps this thread theme has actually saved more watches from being placed on CM. Cheers, Mike
Hi p@trice, Sure, I buy only the watches that I like to wear. But sooner or later things change. Even the watches that I will "hand down" to my children, there are aspects that I would like to change...and if a "perfect" watch ever shows up, there is a wa...
You fell in love with this beauty, got it and later detect something less perfect on it. Instead of being "driven crazy", put it "on the block" and chase other one that is more perfect. Gone and forgotten. Next one, please should be my motto. If it was pe...
Watches which I want to separate me are already on the "collector market", I can not decently post them here ... Again, I wear only what I really like. Best Patrice
I share a similar philosophy to you...i wear what I like. I spend a lot of time thinking about what watches in want to wear and what watches i need in my collection. I also spend time thinking about what watches i no longer want in my collection. Sometime...
If the subject can wear a discussion, is that the theme was not necessarily appropriate IMO but if to suits to all moderators, that's OK for me ! Sorry for my messages PS : But Mo is right, PM is the tool of elegance... Best Patrice
At the risk of being targeted by Panerai enthusiasts :-) I have a 118E in my collection... I've added a few Panerai but these quickly leave the collection in favor of the old school 118. Thanks for your participation, Mike
...to fall in love with, ianny. I have a good dose of PAMs in my collection (too many both as a proportion and in absolute terms). But I think I fell for them precisely because I began with "simpler" dials and certainly with straps...never bracelets... Tr...
. . . Baron stretched it to include the one(s) we would part with if push came to shove. This one departed several months ago . . . . . . to a fellow Purist. The only other watch in my collection I'd consider letting go would be the IWC . . . . . . which ...
. . . appeared on the scene in March, and after several years of putting off a Grand Seiko, this one drove me over the edge. Financial considerations aside, though, there was another reason that drove the decision to part specifically with the El Primero....
for the succint response. I must agree that Grand Seiko is a winner....I'm still trying to get my hands on one though i'm told it's probably sold ,still trying. best henry
Too often we only talk about the watches which we love in our collection We hardly ever talk about the watches which have left...or the process behind the hard decision. Thanks Henry for asking the question and Art for answering with your very personal re...
Tricky question Mike, If I had to (it's strange as I feel like I was unfaithful to my watch, hope she doesn't come on the forum while we speak), it would be this one: Nice unusual theme, HAGWE everyone. Mark ...
May I ask why? I am interested in the little details after ownership which led to your conclusion . You are safe, I promise I won't tell her :-) Thanks, Mike
as some said, it is because "I love the others much more" - I have an Omega Mark IV from the 70's that belonged to my dad; - My De Bethune DB25 I like a lot as i love the brand, and the technical aspects it carries, its philosophy; - My Nautilus 5712 is a...
but in this case it's a bit more complex as Mike's theme has caused a great dilemma. Not really a watch I would think of getting rid of, but I certainly want to keep the others ;) Mark
In 2013 I flipped like there was no end, on my impossible quest to the perfect watch (yes, I know that this don't exists). Some, as samples that the ones that departed. 1) Red Speedmaster. Nice but I got bored quickly. 2) GP. Sometimes I cannot resist an ...
Why does that evoke memories of Oscar Wilde: "To lose one parent may be regarded as a misfortune; to lose both looks like carelessness" ??? ;-) Cheers, pplater.
Mike, This (the lease) will take all the quest for the perfection fun. During the time that I owned those pieces I had true love for each one. But ... They went away because something more interesting showed up. Watches are the single hobby that allows th...
.. but this was my THIRD, yes I repeat, the THIRD Dato PT. It's gone this year. Stayed with me, again, quite a short while. Why? - Top heavy and hurts wrist after a day of wearing. The only reason. And I don't like PG version.... Am I stupid to do it thre...
. . . there's the story of our mutual friend, Scott D, who managed to buy a watch (2004 Seamaster) from a private seller that turned out to be the very same one he had sold a few years earlier to another party. :-)
.. practicality and wearing comfort a more profane but important other issue; ;) Thx for sharing with this nice shot, which shows again - as several have pointed out ( eg Nilo..) that in the end one route will prevail - either because of a "better target"...

without purchasing a Plat Dato from my AD. I thought that the watch was too top heavy as well. For a long time I wasn't sure if I made the right decision....I still don't but your comment regarding wearability and comfort is also one of my most important ...
Gone but never forgotten ..... The weight of the PT950 was just too much for me. Felt like a paperweight on the wrist. Took away from the joy of the elegance of the timepiece for me.... I feel u , Ken ! No PT for me moving forward ! At least my wallet is ...
