I gave my Dad a watch once, brauner - a VC . . .
. . . Overseas.
To make a long story short, the look of pleasure in Dad's eyes when I gifted it to him was unforgettable. Several months later he gave it back, basically because he wasn't wearing it and felt it deserved to be 'gainfully employed'. Not long afterwards a fellow Purist made an offer so I let it go.
You could say the experience was bittersweet.

We may have to wait until heās in his early to mid 30s to be ready to care for a machine of this fragility and value (which is when I was ready)
And by then I will be in my 70sā¦. But I will certainly get him or hand over an attractive entry level luxury watch for his young adulthood, if he does well in school and wants one. Iām not yet sure of how to go about thisā¦. š»

I initially had the watch brought to running order by RGM in Pennsylvania. I think they did a great job ā the dial was cleaned up just a bit and the watch ran and still runs about +5 secs a day. Thanks for commenting.

. . . from his brother after graduating from college, except his has a white dial. After Vic married, his wife Doreen 'appropriated' the Datejust so she wears it most of the time now. A family that shares Rolexes together stays together, or so they say.
Ha ha ha!! Agree about the saying : "A family that shares Rolexes together..." Lol! This type of dial with Roman numbers is known today among collectors as "Buckley dials"...
